Cool air moved along in a light, meandering sort of way, carried by a breeze that gusted half heartedly along. Night had settled over the town of Tomoeda. A calm darkness blanketed the community, soft and peaceful, signaling an end to the summer’s day and a time for rest. Crickets harmonized together in a chirping chorus, their song a lullaby for the many residents who already turned in early so as to rise to greet the coming of the next day promptly. Few lights illuminated windows down the quiet street and those that did flickered out one by one as the minutes passed. A solitary brightness was the only one left shining from the otherwise slumbering Kinomoto home; shining from the second floor window.
It was slightly later than Sakura Kinomoto would have been awake, but the young girl had been busy setting aside items past her usual bedtime. Her emerald eyes examined the packed bag one last time and gave a glance to where a stack of neatly folded clothes awaited. She smiled to herself and let out a quiet giggle as the girl’s thoughts turned to the plans with Tomoyo and the rest of her friends the next day. Behind her the TV sounded out. It was quieter than usual, but sounds of video games at play were rather typical as her tiny companion Keroberos was enthralled as usual.
“Get to a stopping point soon. Ok, Kero-chan?” Sakura requested softly like a mother would a child.
“Got it.” The little beast nodded, giving the girl just enough attention while still focused on the TV screen.
Sakura slipped out of her day clothes and into a set of light pink pajama pants and loose button up top. She paid no heed to the talking stuffed animal-like creature as she did. When he first joined her life she had insisted that Kero wait in her dresser drawer or her closet while she dressed or look away, but after so many months together and his companionship the girl’s concern for such things faded. Kero was a constant in her life ever since that fateful night that she unleashed the Clow Cards. He was the girl’s guide into the mystical world she found herself thrust in. A world that was enchanted and filled with magic. One far different than the typical fourth grade life she had lived until then. Though at times he seemed more like a loud mouthed friend or an unusual pet, the creature had also become her mentor of sorts even if those moments were sparse between loud video game sessions and requests for cake and other sweets.
The girl finished putting on her night clothing and letting down her neck length chestnut hair from the little circle hair pieces she wore. Behind her the TV light flickered off and the sound of the game had faded. She gave one last look at her bag ready for the next fun filled summer day and smiled.
“Tomorrow is going to be so much fun.” Sakura declared, practically skipping across the room to her bedside. “I can’t wait.”
Kero had fluttered to the top of the desk that sat opposite of the bed, carried by his tiny white wings. A drawer within the desk contained the Book of the Clow and the handful of cards Sakura had managed to seal up to now. Normally that would have been the toy-like beast’s focus, but he found himself curious about a different book atop the desk. A small stack of them.
“Hey, Sakura? What’s with the book pile?” Kero stood on his hind legs and placed a hand to the small rise of text and notebooks.
“Oh that? That’s my summer homework.” Sakura yawned as she pulled back the blankets atop her bed.
“Have you even started on this yet, Sakura?” The toy-like beast raised an eyebrow. “There isn’t much time left for the break.”
“I’ll get it done, Kero-chan. I always do.” The girl waved off the concern. She flashed a quick look at the calendar and confirmed the time was still open to her. Each break had seen her assignments getting done on the last day or two up until this point in her young student career.
“If you say so. But you know what they say, ‘Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.’” Keroberos folded his arms and nodded, feeling especially sagely.
Sakura’s eyes narrowed at the admonishment by the little creature, her cheeks puffing up big as she resisted growling. “Ugh! I’ll be fine, Kero-chan!” The girl slipped herself under the covers and laid down, turning her back to the guardian beast and the neglected schoolwork.
Keroberos glided to the light switch on the far wall to turn it off then to his usual resting place at the foot of the bed. “Whatever you say, Sakura. As long as I get to say ‘I told you so’ when it causes you trouble later.” He laughed as he bedded down.
“Good night, Kero-chan!” Sakura belted out louder than she intended as she pulled the blanket over her stiffly pouting face. What did he know? It’s not like Guardian Beasts of magic books ever went to school or had to decide how best to spend their summer. There was almost a week and half left of the break and plenty of time to get to her homework. It’s not like she was putting it off because she didn’t like school or something. Sakura loved her classes and her teachers, well maybe not math as much. But still, it all had a way of working out. Kero would see that soon.
Maybe she had a bit of an issue with putting the work off. Perhaps she could make a plan about the assignments tomorrow? The girl thought as she adjusted herself in the bed to get cozy. Well, there was the trip with Tomoyo and her other friends tomorrow that would take most of the day. Then the next day she had plans too. Of course she had to do her share of the chores that she put off till later in the week so that she could make time for all these fun outings. Her Dad and big brother would be counting on her for that responsibility and it was important too.
Sakura’s eyes began to feel heavy as her head sank comfortably onto the pillow. Sleep drew near and with it her frustration at Kero’s little lecture waned. It would be alright. The girl told herself as she shut her tired green eyes. It would work out fine.

The short time remaining of Sakura’s summer break seemed to pass by in a flash. The days seemed to slip by in a haze, gone so quick that she barely could recall them at all. Sakura was sure that her plans had been lovely, that she made happy memories worth cherishing with her loved ones. But now those warm moments didn’t seem much comfort as the girl found herself sitting behind her desk back at school taking in the sight of that same stack of assignments and materials that Kero had lectured her about, not a single one even started. It seemed like she could barely even recall the break ending, of putting on the charcoal black long sleeved sweater and short white pleated skirt that made up her school uniform.
Was there something odd about wearing her winter uniform right after the summer break?
The thought was barely considered by the distraught girl as the teacher called the class to attention. All the other students turned in their assignments from the break, all of them were faced forward as their teacher began his instruction with a thank you to the class for their hard work over the vacation. It was a comment that stung Sakura as she locked eyes with Mr. Terada for only a moment before breaking the glance and looking down at her lap.
To Sakura it felt like the class went by very swiftly. The whole day even. So consuming was her disappointment in herself that she barely noticed anything else. Not the changing of subjects, lessons, or anything else. It was as if the first school day came and went in an instant.
Most of the other students had gone now while Sakura still sat at her desk with that collection of undone assignments as her sole companion. She looked up at last, catching sight of the few people in the class. Mr. Terada hadn’t quite left and their eyes met as he looked the girl’s way before heading out the door. The moment stretched out for a time as Sakura took in his expressionless gaze. The man’s face shifted to one of disappointment as he eyed the neglected homework before making his way out of the classroom and away.
Sakura’s hands balled up in her lap as her guilty feelings grew. She had let down Mr. Terada, one of her favorite teachers. The shame stung at her heart as she admonished herself once more for having been so neglectful.
Looking up again Sakura noticed her best friend Tomoyo getting up from the seat beside her, the other girl’s long ebony locks of hair trailing her movements. Tomoyo was her eternal champion and greatest supporter in everything Sakura did. She was the one person that was aware of the girl’s adventures to capture the Clow Cards and even filmed the magical escapades. Even when Sakura felt at her worst Tomoyo always saw her at her best.
Yet, somehow, so much to Sakura’s disappointment, Tomoyo didn’t offer advice or any sort of reassurance to her. The other girl gave Sakura a neutral look before her violet eyes shifted noticeably to the pile of assignments.
Sakura followed her friend’s gaze. She wanted to fling herself on top of the materials now and cover them from sight. To toss them away. To do something, anything, to remove them from her best friend’s view. But she couldn’t move. Sakura just stayed in her seat, frozen in place.
Tomoyo shook her head and uttered a disapproving sigh, turning away and leaving the class now too without a word to Sakura.
Shame mounted in the girl’s heart, growing greater with each interaction. At last Sakura rose from her desk, gathered the stack of homework into her bag and trodded towards the door and began her way home. As she passed from the building and towards the front gate she caught sight of her other friends who all seemed to share Tomoyo and her teacher’s dissatisfaction with her judging by their faces. Sakura couldn’t bring herself to make eye contact with them. It would be time for cheerleading practice soon, but she decided to skip it and head home. If she couldn’t do her homework they couldn’t rely on her as part of the team either Sakura decided inwardly.
Where had the time gone? How could she have allowed herself to be so irresponsible? The questions swirled in Sakura’s mind as she made her way out of the school and onto the sidewalk path so familiar she could trace it in her sleep. As she plodded on, a new question popped into the somber girl’s mind. How would her Dad react when he heard the news? Sakura wasn’t concerned for herself. Her father was the kindest man she’d ever known and a gentle soul. He’d only ever punished her once before and even that had been at the girl’s insistence after one of her pursuits for a Clow Card had destroyed a body of his academic work. Sakura insisted then that her misdeeds, accidental though they were, had earned a penalty. Not because her father deemed it needed, but because Sakura’s earnest nature wouldn’t let her off the hook until she felt soundly punished. That was how she had gotten the first and only spanking she’d ever received.
Would she get another spanking for forgetting her homework? Sakura posed the question anxiously to herself.
Sakura was so absorbed in the memory and the guilt that still threatened to boil over inside herself that she didn’t notice that her path had taken her into the local park near her home. Penguin Park stretched out before her. A large iron barred jungle gym stood not far from a water fountain. A pair of wooden seesaws sat waiting to be set in motion to one corner of the area. To the opposite side of the park she spotted a familiar and often visited swing set, its hanging seats dangling limply from a strong metal frame. And of course the giant blue and white bellied penguin statue that gave the park its name at the center of the public place. A golden crown rose atop King Penguin’s head and Sakura’s eyes traced the path of stairs up the statue’s back that lead to an opening in the sculpture and a slide made out of King Penguin’s elongated beak.
Normally Penguin Park would have brought Sakura a sense of warmth and joy. She had been taken there ever since she was toddler to play with her friends and the girl still frequented the play place. Though, more often than not, the park was the site of her magical adventures and battles with Clow Cards now, rather than a place to simply play. The warmth from being in that place didn’t seem to visit Sakura now. Her thoughts were still mired in feelings of disgrace, of overwhelming disappointment in herself. Not even the sight of King Penguin and his many smaller multicolored penguin statue subjects lining the sandbox circle around the elaborate and comforting slide could cast a warm light on Sakura’s firmly cast frown as she set out to cross the park with heavy steps.
Yet, sitting just on the other side of King Penguin, Sakura spotted someone who never failed to make her heart soar.
“Yukito-san…” Sakura whispered the older boy’s name as she stepped closer.
The young man looked up seeing her approach. “Oh? Good afternoon, Sakura-chan.” He greeted with a wave.
Just being near Yukito was enough to turn back the grim wave of feelings in the girl’s heart. He was older than her and much taller, the same age as Sakura’s older brother and his best friend and constant companion. Yukito’s maturity was made clear by his light blue blazer and navy colored necktie that covered up in part his white undershirt as well as the dark blue slacks that completed the Tomoeda High uniform. A set of clothes far distant from Sakura’s elementary school garb. But it wasn’t an age gap that made Sakura’s heart skip a beat at his sight; it was the nature of the teen boy wearing it.
Short and wispy light gray hair framed Yukito’s gentle and soft features. His eyes were covered by large round glasses that gave the boy a scholarly sort of look and his marks in school proved that idea about him to be earned. His slender frame fit the high school uniform well, but hid the impressive athletic abilities of the boy in them. But, more than any of those other elements, it was Yukito’s smile that made Sakura’s heartbeat quicken. It was a smile that was so very warm, so filled with kindness, that Sakura couldn’t help but smile back every time she saw it, often timidly so and looking elsewhere while her heartbeat quickened.
Yukito wore that wonderful smile now and for a moment all the shame and guilt faded away. An expression so comforting it parted away all the dark clouds and warmed like the summer sun. A gentle expression like the full moon’s light that illuminated a pitch black night.
“Good afternoon, Yukito-san…” The girl spoke in a quiet murmur, that dark mood still clinging so strongly to her even with the object of her young heart so near. Sakura had found herself smitten with the older boy almost from first sight. Every time he was around she could feel butterflies in her stomach and a warmth on her cheeks. Even now those feelings were there though they were lessened by what weighed on her mind.
“Is something wrong? You seem down.” The boy spoke gently as Sakura approached, nearing up to stand beside where he sat.
“Well…” The words snagged in her throat for a moment. “I did something bad…” Sakura’s voice trailed off as she struggled to hold herself accountable. “I didn’t do my summer homework. Not just part of it, I never even started any of it. I don’t know what happened. I meant to. Really, I did!”
Sakura was looking down now, her hands gripping handfuls of her white pleated uniform skirt. “I was just having so much fun over the break. I thought I had more time, but it seemed to just pass by in a flash, like a dream…” She hung on the thought then moved on. “I guess that’s it.” The girl made herself look up with her confession concluded, hoping to find some comfort from the older boy.
“I see.” Yukito nodded his understanding. His expression wasn’t the cheerful smile Sakura loved to see, but rather a calm and neutral one. “You know better than this, Sakura-chan. I’m disappointed.”
Sakura dipped her head as she gripped her skirt harder than before. There it was, the words she knew everyone else around her had been thinking about her, that she had been musing about herself even. Somehow, coming from Yukito gave the words a greater weight than she could have imagined and tears began to form in her eyes. She barely had time to sit with those feelings when out of her hazy vision she saw the boy’s gentle hand grip firmly about one of her wrists.
With a strong and sudden pull Sakura felt herself brought closer to Yukito, the small gap between them closing in an instant, dropping her school bag and the undone homework collection in surprise as she was seized. In a single fluid motion the girl felt herself tugged along from where she had been sulking off and draped over the older boy’s lap. The little Mary Jane shoes Sakura wore no longer touched the ground though she instinctively tried. A view of the sandy park floor filled her vision now as her mind rushed to try and catch pace with what was happening now.
“I suppose there’s only one thing to do. I’ll have to punish you.” Yukito announced plainly. The tone of his voice was as calm as ever as he took hold of her skirt and flipped it up to reveal her panty-clad behind and the patterns of little multicolored sweets that decorated the thin cloth covering.
Sakura’s face flushed, colored suddenly scarlet as embarrassment washed over her at the exposure. She didn’t know what to say at all. Shock at the older boy’s action and apparent decision stole away her voice. Yukito’s right hand came to rest against the small of her back then, pressing down just hard enough to let the young girl know she was to stay right where she was. Then the red hue lighting her face went crimson as she twisted her head to see the boy’s other hand taking tight hold of the waistband of her panties and guiding them slowly down off of her bottom.
“Yukito-san! What are you doing?!” Sakura belted out suddenly as her naked rear end went fully on display. Wiggling her short legs pensively she felt her underwear bunched now around her thighs. Fresh tears began to gather in her eyes as she gazed back to watch as Yukito’s open palm went up and out of her limited view.
Without a word of announcement or addressing the girl, Yukito’s left hand rose to be level with his now stern face before coming down hard against her bare bottom, a loud slap marking the contact.
Sakura’s body went rigid as her hands shot forward and her legs curled. Disbelief still keeping the girl from processing what was happening.
Yukito landed another firm smack, sending the girl into an involuntary reaction. “You know better than to put off your homework. You’re supposed to be responsible and not make your Daddy worry.” His open palm began to establish a pace and rhythm as he lectured.
Aside from the yelps of sudden painful reaction at each swat Sakura couldn’t make herself say anything. Shock still robbed her voice fully as her face burned white hot at the realization. She was getting a spanking. The boy she liked was giving her a spanking!
“Your Onii-chan would be disappointed too.” Yukito shook his head as his hand crashed down again and the girl’s now pinkening backside. “Touya is so busy with work it’s better then that I handle your punishment so he doesn’t have to.” Slapping sounds and measured smacks punctuated the teen boy’s words.
Sakura was overwhelmed with a confusing mixture of emotions. Embarrassment and self pity joined with her previously carried shame and disappointment and flooding over any ability to speak out. The burning sensation spread on her backside, growing with each stinging strike landed by the older boy’s strong hand. Sakura couldn’t find the words for either explanation or apology and so she simply went limp over Yukito’s lap and began to cry. For all the humiliation she felt, Sakura also felt the punishment fully earned and deserved.
“And Kero-chan thought you were more responsible when he picked you to be the Cardcaptor too.” Yukito said landing another firm spank.
Sakura nodded quickly, guilty feelings overtaking her as the pain of her punishment steadily mounted. Her wet eyes shut hard, not even processing the oddity of his lecture, not even considering that Kero and Yukito didn’t know each other at all.
“You should be ashamed of yourself.” Yukito’s hand came down again and another loud slap filled the park air. By now the girl’s bottom had gone from a light pink blush to a blooming red hue. "I could never be with such an irresponsible girl."
Sakura’s misty green eyes went wide as her tear stricken face exploded with heartbreaking sadness at the boy’s words. “I-I’m sorry! Please! I’m so sorry I didn’t do my homework!” She finally belted out louder than any smack to her rear. Those were the only words Sakura could manage. Booming sobs and cries of reaction from each slap became the only other noises then as the older boy went on silently now carrying on the girl’s public spanking.
Her eyes burst open and she rose upwards with a sudden start.
Sakura blinked with confusion. The park wasn’t there. Casting a gaze about she couldn’t find King Penguin or any of the park equipment. She was in her room and in her pajamas, sitting up in her bed with the blankets cast slightly off. The gift of dawn’s first light was pressing through the window near her and through its light she could spy faintly the calendar across her room. It hadn’t been marked. The break hadn’t passed. Her stack of neglected summer homework sat right where it had been the night before.
Sakura let out a deep sigh of relief. It had all been a dream.
“A dream…” The girl whispered. As she came slowly awake a deep red hue began to creep steadily across her face recalling the dream. An image of herself over Yukito’s lap. The mortifying dreamy memory bare bottom on display in Penguin Park! The spanking!
“W-w-we,” Sakura’s hands shot out like bullets, grabbing a pillow with hands like tight vices before burying her fiery face into its soft embrace. “Weh!” The cushion muffled what would have otherwise been a deafening shout as the girl faced the horribly embarrassing scenario her mind had laid out for her.
***
The light of the mid morning had filled the little room as Kero’s small eyes blinked lazily open. He stretched his tiny frame out its length as the plush-like beast rose up off the blanket. Pivoting around he expected to see Sakura behind him, still curled up in the bed and slumbering away. But she wasn’t there. For a moment he pondered how much he must have slept if the young cardcaptor beat him to rising, but a glance at a clock on the nightstand revealed it to only be coming up on 8 AM.
Kero cast a look about the room and spotted the girl at once. She was sitting slouched over her desk already dressed for the day. He got up and floated over to where Sakura sat, not gaining any of her notice as he did. Kero fluttered above her and scanned the desk. The stack of previously neglected homework had been moved and a small stack of now completed assignments had been started on the opposite end of the desk for where the girl hunkered down in intense focus.
“Well, well, well, I see the advice of the wise Keroberos got through to you after all.” The beast spoke up.
Sakura nodded, giving the little guardian beast as little attention as she could.
“Yes indeed.” Kero nodded more than a bit pleased with himself. “Why, I’d say this is the start of a brand spanking new leaf for you Sakura.”
Sakura’s focus shattered, ears zeroing in on the one word, the still very fresh image of her dream flooding her mind, a picture not likely to leave her thoughts anytime soon. The girl’s face flushed scarlet as she forced herself not to squeal out loud, staring so intent instead on the textbook before her she might burn holes through it with her gaze. “Yeah, sure thing, Kero-chan.” Sakura muttered as the wispy picture and the feelings with it forced its way to the front of her thoughts. A clear message from her mind to change her ways, broadcast by images of the boy she liked a stinging red behind.
